Philanthropic Partner Delivers for Albertans
Polar Asset Management turns long-standing philanthropy into lasting financial opportunity for Albertans.
Supporting Canadian people and communities has been integral to the identity of the partners at Polar Asset Management from the beginning. For more than 25 years, they have invested in initiatives to support the arts, education, community-based programs, individual artists and athletes — the goal being to foster creativity, learning and social and economic mobility.
Rooted in the values established by co-founder Paul Sabourin and carried forward by President & CEO Greg Lemaich, Polar believes that success comes with a responsibility to invest in people, communities, and the next generation of achievement.
In 2001, that philosophy was formalized with the creation of the Polar Foundation, which directs a portion of the firm’s earnings to charitable causes, and through partnerships with organizations such as the AIMCo Foundation for Financial Education.
“This commitment has been part of Polar’s DNA since Paul’s earliest days with the firm. As we grow, I’m proud to build on that foundation and continue creating opportunities for people and communities to thrive,” says Lemaich. “Our commitment to support communities isn’t tied to market cycles or any single year, it is a responsibility we embrace year after year.”
Polar has been a corporate partner of the AIMCo Foundation for the past six years, helping advance its scholarship and bursary programs for students pursuing business and finance studies at Alberta post-secondary institutions. The firm’s support has also strengthened the Foundation’s community grant program, which funds innovative financial literacy initiatives delivered by Alberta-based organizations across the province.

The AIMCo Foundation works to ensure that every Albertan has what they need to improve their financial health. That can take many forms — from helping newcomers navigate the Canadian financial system, to teaching youth the basics of budgeting, to guiding people with their finances as they face a life-altering illness, to enabling seniors to recognize and avoid fraudulent schemes.
At its core, the work is rooted in a belief that all people deserve to feel the happiness, freedom and empowerment of financial stability. That mission aligns closely with Polar’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy and community impact.
For Polar, the AIMCo Foundation partnership is more than a corporate sponsorship, it reflects a shared commitment to helping people build financial stability and opportunity. Over the past six years, that commitment has translated into meaningful support for students, newcomers, and Albertans working to strengthen their financial futures.
